Getting started

Make your Links account

One free Links account works for both Links Studio and Links MixDeck.

  1. Go to Account and choose Create account, or use Continue with Google.
  2. Enter your name, email and a password of 8 or more characters.
  3. That's it: sign in with the same email and password inside the programs.
Sign in inside Links Studio or Links MixDeck

Links MixDeck: click the round account button at the top right, then Sign in. Enter your email and password, or choose Continue with Google: your browser opens, you pick your Google account there, and MixDeck signs in by itself.

Links Studio: click the account button at the top right, then sign in the same way.

Signing in gives that computer the Free licence. There's no limit on how many computers you sign in on.

Free, Paid, Monthly or Educational: what's the difference?
  • Free: comes with every account. Sign in on as many computers as you like. In Links MixDeck you can DJ with every deck, effect and controller; recording your mixes, streaming, stems and Links Cloud need one of the licences below.
  • Paid: buy once and keep it, on 2 computers.
  • Monthly: everything while you subscribe, on 2 computers. Cancel any time.
  • Educational: for students and teachers, for a year at a time, on 2 computers.

Paid, Monthly and Educational are activated with a file on each computer: see Activate a computer.

Licences & activation

Activate a computer (Paid, Monthly or Educational)
  1. In the program, export this computer's activation request:
    • Links MixDeck: click the logo, then Export activation request.
    • Links Studio: open Account, then Export request.
Save the .lsrequest file somewhere you can find it.
  2. On your Account > Computers page, click Upload activation request and choose that file.
  3. Your browser downloads the activation file (a .lslicence file).
  4. Back in the program choose Import activation file and pick it. Done: that computer has the full version.

An activation file works only on the computer it was made for.

How many computers can I use?

The Free licence has no limit. Paid, Monthly and Educational work on 2 computers for each program, so 2 for Links Studio and 2 for Links MixDeck.

Remove the licence from a computer

Two ways, and either frees its place for another computer:

  • From the program: Links MixDeck: click the logo, then Remove from this computer. Links Studio: open Account, then Remove from this PC. This needs the internet.
  • From your account: on Account > Computers, click Remove next to the computer. Handy when the computer is lost, broken or sold. It goes back to the Free licence the next time it's online.
Moving to a new computer
  1. Remove the licence from the old computer (see Remove the licence). If you can't reach it, remove it on your Account page.
  2. Install the program on the new computer and sign in.
  3. Activate the new computer (see Activate a computer).
Does it work offline?

Yes. Once activated, the program works without the internet. When it is online it checks in once a day: a Monthly licence moves on to the next month by itself, and a computer you removed on your Account page goes back to Free.

The Free licence works offline for 30 days at a time and renews itself whenever you're online.

Who can get an Educational licence?

Students and teachers. Apply on Account > Licences with the name of your school, college or university.

If your account's email is a school or university address (for example ending in .edu or .ac.uk), it's approved straight away. Otherwise we check it by hand, usually within a day or two. It lasts a year, and you can apply again after that.

Sign-in & password

I forgot my password
  1. Go to Account > Forgot password and enter your account's email.
  2. Open the email "Reset your Links password" (check your spam folder too) and click Choose a new password.
  3. Type your new password twice and save it.

The link works once, for an hour. After a reset you're signed out everywhere else, so sign in again inside the programs with the new password.

Change my password

Sign in to your Account, open Sign-in & security, and enter your current password and the new one. Other sign-ins end, including in the programs, and ask for the new password.

Sign in with Google (Gmail)

Choose Continue with Google on the Account page or in the program. You sign in on Google's own page; we never see that password. We only get your name and your confirmed email address.

If you already have a Links account with the same email, it's the same account. If not, a free one is made for you.

Want a password as well? Use I forgot my password to set one.

The program signed me out

That happens after a password change or reset (every other sign-in ends, for safety). Sign in again with your new password. An activation stays on the computer: signing out never removes it.

Links Cloud

What is Links Cloud?

Links Cloud keeps your Links MixDeck library with your account: your music, cue points, hot cues, loops, crates, analysis, history, settings and layouts. Sign in on another computer and it all appears there.

It needs a Paid, Monthly or Educational MixDeck licence and a Links Cloud plan. Your music is private to your account.

Where do cloud tracks go on my computer?

Tracks that aren't on a computer yet are listed and download when you load them (or all at once from the account button's menu at the top right). They're kept in Music\Links Cloud.

Buying & billing

How do I buy Paid or Monthly?

On Account > Licences, choose Buy or Subscribe. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see your card. Your licence appears on the page as soon as the payment is through, and then you activate your computers.

If the buttons say Opens soon, buying online isn't open yet.

Cancel a Monthly subscription

When you cancel, your licence keeps working until the end of the month you paid for, then the program goes back to Free. Your account and your Free licence stay.

I'm on Monthly or Educational and want to buy Paid

Buy Paid on the Licences page. Your computers stay activated: they switch to Paid the next time they check in (or right away if you export and import a fresh activation file).

Troubleshooting

"That licence is for another computer"

An activation file only works on the computer that made the request. Export a request on this computer and upload that one.

"That activation file is for Links MixDeck" (or Links Studio)

Each program has its own licence. Export the request from the program you want to activate, and import the file into the same program.

"Your licence is on 2 computers already"

Both places are used. Remove one computer on Account > Computers, then upload the request again.

"Couldn't reach the account server"

Check your internet connection, and that a firewall isn't blocking the program. Activated programs keep working offline; signing in and activating need the internet.

The reset email didn't arrive

Give it a couple of minutes and look in your spam or junk folder. Check you typed the email your account uses. If you signed up with Google, you can simply sign in with Google again.
